Converse began producing a shoe basketball early in 1917 and rebuilt in 1922, when Chuck Taylor asked the company to create a shoe better with more support and flexibility. After that Converse added the signature of Taylor to the patch at the ankle, known as Chuck Taylor All Stars. For the decade of the 1960s, the company had captured between 70 percent and 80 percent of the market of basketball shoes, but the popularity of the shoes decreased during the decade of 1970, when more and more basketball players wearing other brands of shoes. Chuck Taylor All Stars enjoyed a revival in popularity in the 1980s as a casual shoe with a retro.
